An air force veteran was guest of honour at a visit by 40 members of Barnack and District Royal British Legion to the Harrier Heritage Centre at RAF Wittering.
Cliff Shepherd, who will be 100 years old on July 2, is a member of the Stamford Legion branch and was accompanied by his daughter, Thelma Handford.
Mr Shepherd was an RAF Regiment Warrant Officer during the Second World War and was mentioned in despatches for his role in shooting down enemy aircraft during the Battle of the Bulge.
The group had lunch in the Senior NCOs’ Mess and were given a tour of the Harrier display and a presentation on the history of the base. Some also did some shooting on an electronic indoor firing range.
