A care worker who took voluntary redundancy when care services pulled out of Bourne has set up her own day service to help improve the lives of people in the town.

Karen Flowers, who has 21 years experience working for social services, set up Knowing You, Knowing Me day service at Bourne Youth Centre.

Karen said the centre is a perfect base with lots of space and facilities available for people with disabilities.

Karen said: “I believe people with a disability should be able to live their life like anyone else but with support, so with the day service I offer various activities within and around the community such as bowling, sailing, cinema, day out to the sea side and parks, and meeting up with friends to enjoy the activities together plus many more.”

This summer Karen has launched a new disco events to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Bourne.

Karen said: “I set up the discos for people with a disability not able to otherwise be able to go to a disco.

“People can now enjoy themselves with their friends in a safe environment and be themselves and whether they can dance or not without having to feel different from anyone else.”

The next disco will take place at Bourne Youth Centre on Saturday, October 26, from 7pm to 9.30pm. Call Karen on 07914539822 for more.
