Nearly 100 people celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Friends of Stamford Hospital on Friday.

The group, which was established following a public meeting at Stamford Town Hall on October 11, 1962, provides equipment for the hospital and items to improve comfort for the patients.

Friends chairman Dr Michael Dronfield said the group continues with the same aims as when it first started and works to maintain the interest in Stamford Hospital by making representations to the trust, which runs the hospital, the MP and strategic health authorities.

Dr Dronfield paid tribute to the work of matron Sue Brooks and her team, as well as the volunteers who help.

To mark the anniversary, a new website has been launched at www.friendsofstamfordhospital.org.uk Details of how to join the friends are on the website.
