A consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon and her team are the latest to be nominated in this year’s hospital heroes awards.

Geeta Shetty and the breast care team at Peterborough City Hospital were put forward for an award by a patient from Stamford who asked to remain anonymous.

The patient said: “As soon as I arrived in the department I was enveloped into their care. The department is really busy, but as a patient you never feel rushed and are always treated as an individual.

“My treatment plan was catered to my individual news.

“When you are told you have cancer, it is devastating and you don’t know what the outcome will be, but from the very beginning the staff were like a safety net for me. It is very easy to take for granted the great care that you receive and people are quick to highlight negative care, but the team and Mrs Shetty have been fantastic.

“The information that they have provided for me has been excellent and there is always someone on the end of the phone if you need to give them a call for support.”

If you have had excellent treatment at Peterborough City or Stamford Hospital, the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust wants you to nominate individuals or teams of trust staff who you think deserve extra appreciation.

Three teams and/or individuals from both Stamford Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital will be shortlisted from the public recognition nominations and the winners will be announced at the trust’s awards ceremony in October.

This year the trust is also looking for nominations for its new Midwife of the Year award.

To nominate a health hero, please send details of why you’d like to nominate the staff member, along with their full name and department if known, to communications@pbh-tr.nhs.uk. You can also call 01733 678025.
