NEW life-saving equipment has been installed in an estate.

The latest of the devices in Uppingham was installed in Hawthorn Drive in The Beeches estate before the new year.

The next phase of the project will be to install one in the Stockerston Road area which will be dedicated to former mayor and Rutland county councillor Colin Forsyth OBE who died in October.

Uppingham First secretary and vice-chairman of the Beeches Residents’ Association Ron Simpson, who is coordinating the project, said: “Colin’s widow Sarah approached me some time ago about hosting a defibrillator because we need somewhere that we can access electricity.

“As Colin lived in Stockerston Road and as Sarah has been such a supporter of the scheme it only seems right to dedicate it to him.

“There would be a plaque below it with his name on.”

The Stockerston Road defibrillator will also serve Newtown Road, Bailey Close and Stockerston Cresent and will provide a life-line if someone suffers from a cardiac arrest in the area.

A team of residents living in the area will be trained to use it and their numbers will be readily available.

The Beeches contacts are on the residents’ association notice board.
