The patient group at St Mary’s Medical Centre in Stamford is looking for new members to join its active committee.

The group has been running since 1999 and works hard to raise much-needed funds to help the surgery purchase items of equipment - including medical equipment - that would not otherwise be covered by core NHS funding.

Over the years the group have raised over £50,000 and purchased more than 70 items including blood pressure monitors and an ECG, a dermatascope and camera and an automated patient check-in screen.

The group will shortly be purchasing new chairs for the waiting areas and consulting rooms and new signage for the practice car park.

Recently, the group was awarded charity status and the committee is looking for new volunteers to help expand the group and continue its good work.

The group is open to any patient registered with the practice over the age of 16. The group meets every six weeks to discuss the services and support provided by the practice and to offer feedback.

The practice also asks the group for feedback on any changes that are being or new services that are being developed to ensure that they meet the needs of their patients.

The next patient group meeting, which is also the annual general meeting, will be held on Tuesday, September 16, at 6.45pm at the practice in Wharf Road and anyone who wants to join can go along.
