A NEW scheme will give customers more hygiene information about where they are eating.
South Kesteven District Council will introduce the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme on 1 April 2012. The scheme, developed by the Food Standards Agency, will replace the Scores on the Doors scheme the council has been running since 2006.
Portfolio holder for healthy environment, Coun John Smith (Con) said: “Food outlets, like restaurants, takeaways and pubs, are inspected by food safety officers to check that their hygiene standards meet legal requirements.
“The hygiene standards found at these inspections are rated on a scale ranging from zero at the bottom, to a top rating of five.”
The ratings will be displayed at the entrances to food businesses and at food.gov.uk/ratings.
