AN independent fruit and vegetable supplier is hoping to help people keep their healthy new year’s resolutions by giving away a £10 box of goods every week for 16 weeks.
Brooms Fruit and Vegetables, based off Wharf Road, Stamford, started in September with the aim of delivering fresh fruit and vegetables and local produce to your door.
It is a family business set up by Andy and Ruth Broom who decided it was time produce traditionally found in a greengrocer became readily available to people in the area.
Andy said: “It started off as an idea when we were sitting around the dinner table. We joked about opening a green-grocer’s shop and it set me thinking.
“The shop would be too expensive to open so we decided to start making deliveries.”
Andy says initially their target market was elderly people who find it difficult to get out of the house and have little access to fresh produce, but he has been surprised by the number of young families using the service.
Brooms source all their fruit and vegetables from a supplier in Leicester and use local producers to supply jams, honey and preserves. They also offer a service which enables people to choose exactly which fruit and vegetables they would like in their delivery, rather than getting a random selection each week.
Andy says: “We do offer a selection box for people who like surprises or who do not mind what they get. We also do gift boxes or various sizes.”
