ELIZABETHAN recorder music, soap making and seed preservation were all part of a fun-filled summer Sunday at Barnsdale Gardens in Exton.

Children and adults tried out traditional and practical crafts such as making pomanders out of satsumas and cloves and learned how to preserve tomato and lettuce seeds for future use.

They were entertained by recorder group The Beauvale Ensemble who played Elizabethan music and also threw in a few chart hits to keep feet tapping.

Garden owner Nick Hamilton said: “It went really well and despite the weather we had a lot of people here. There were about 300 in total.

“Children enjoyed the soap making and a lot of people took information away. One boy made a soap in the shape of a snail.”

The next event at Barnsdale Gardens will be Japanese raku pottery run by Nick’s brother Chris on Sunday.
