HUNDREDS of residents enjoyed a family fun day to mark the opening of a community centre.

The Elsea Park Community Trust held a series of events on Saturday and Sunday for residents living on the estate to celebrate the opening of the Centre @ Elsea Park.

The £750,000 building was handed over to residents in April by developer Kier Homes.

The organisers were delighted with the turnout during the weekend, which included a ribbon cutting ceremony by Amy Taylor and Lily-Kate Derrick, who won a poster competition, a family fun day during the day on Saturday and a barn dance and hog roast in the evening.

On Sunday, there was a demonstration of the sessions which will be on offer at the centre, including Zumba, yoga and pilates and kick boxing. There was also a display of classic cars.

Community trust manager Sally Waltham said: “We had a fantastic weekend and I am sure the everyone seemed to have a fun time. Particular thanks go to the volunteers and staff for the hard work in planning and running the weekend which gave all the residents of Elsea Park the chance to see the facilities on offer.”

The centre is now available to hire for events by calling 01778 423062.
