A YOUNG opera singer has picked herself up and moved on after losing a competition to audition for Britain’s Got Talent.

Katie Marshall, 11, of Hall Gardens. Uppingham, was shortlisted from thousands of entries in the show’s YouTube competition and came very close to auditioning in front of the judges.

The outcome of the competition depended on the public vote and this time Katie, who is a pupil at Leighfield Primary School, narrowly missed out.

Her mother Sarah said: “You always prepare yourself to be disappointed and this was such an amazing opportunity. They said to come back again next year because she is only 11.

“And as one door closes another one opens.”

On the same day as finding out she had not made it through to the Briatin’s Got Talent auditions, Katie was told she was the regional winner of The Next Brit Thing and has been entered into the national final in London on March 5.

The winner will perform at the Royal Albert Hall and on Classic FM.
