BEER is the key ingredient in a new pub menu.
The Grainstore Brewery in Station Approach, Oakham, has reopened its kitchen eight months after it was badly damaged in a fire.
The blaze at the end of January was caused by a fault in a light fitting and set fire to paperwork in the roof.
Since then staff have been working hard to rebuild the kitchen and re-launched it on Monday with a new look, a new menu and a new chef.
Ben Young, 26, from Oakham, has previously been a chef at The Sun in Cottesmore and The Fox and Hounds at Exton and is using the brewery’s products in his menu.
He said: “Every single recipe bar one has got beer in it in some form.
“Whether it’s in the main dish or a condiment on the side.
“I think it’s a real selling point and hopefully people will like it.”
The kitchen will be open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as lunches Monday to Saturday.
There will also be a weekly curry night and bar snacks all day every day.
Ben said: “I’m really excited about it.
“We have put a lot of work into the new kitchen and new menu and I am already drafting my next menu, which will change in six months.”
