THOUSANDS of people flocked to Stamford today (Thursday) for the start of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

It was wellies and walking boots as the weather turned the grounds of Burghley House to mud, but that did not put off fans eager to see the start of the dressage competition.

The trials continue until Sunday with Olympic team silver medallists William Fox-Pitt and Mary King both competing.

Visitors will also be able to make the most of a host of top-class shops and displays.

Head to the official trials website for the full schedule and ticket details.
