Call for more public loos wins backing
WE at The Children's Garden would like to support the Spend a Penny campaign to re-open the toilets at the recreation ground.
As a very busy day nursery it is always great to get out and about with our children exploring the environment around us and one of our favourite places is The Recreation Ground especially now as it has so many changes and improvements.
It just lacks toilet facilities.
Not easy when a little one announces: "I need a wee".
Fortunately for us we are only around the corner despite taking all the kit we need to have on excursions.
We have observed several times the difficulties the public face with having no toilets close by sadly cutting a child's play time very short.
We think toilets and a little caf idea is fabulous and that families would have the opportunity to spend quality time with each other in a beautiful, safe and stimulating environment.
After all play is very valuable in helping a child's all round development and helping them to thrive physically in lots of fresh air.
We wish members from the recreation ground all the best and will think of how we can help to support this well needed and important campaign.

As a regular, though not frequent, visitor to Stamford from Dorset, I have read with interest the correspondence in The Mercury over the toilets (or rather lack of them) in the town.
I have for some time been concerned that the facilities are truly few and far between.
With the recreation ground ones currently either out of use or unsuitable, one is left with those in Red Lion Square, which can be used only on payment of an iniquitous fee.
Have those in control never had or forgotten when they did have the care of young children in town?
Have they no experience of the effects of prostate cancer, or even simple prostate problems?
For many at either end of the age spectrum urgency can be a keyword: adequate facilities are for all not a luxury but a necessity, and the council should not expect to rely on shops and restaurants etc to fill the gap.
Stamford is a delightful town, full of charm and a rich variety of shops: it deserves better facilities for its residents and visitors.
May I suggest those entitled to do so lobby their local councillors until something positive happens.
