Letter: Obvious choice for site of a football ground - 26/06/09

To add my comments to the letter regarding the proposed relocation of the Daniels ground to a field off Ryhall Road, I have enclosed two pictures, which were taken within half a mile of each other.

One is a field on the edge of town and the other is the former Blackstone's site.

If you were a councillor with the best interests of the town at heart, where would you choose to put a football ground? Surely, there can only be one answer, unless of course, someone has a vested interest in ensuring the "correct" choice is not made?

There have already been some initial excavations in this field under the guise of an archaeological dig! If this is not true, then why would those workman lie? What ulterior motive could there be other than to conceal the true intention?

Clearly from my address, I have a keen interest in the outcome this decision, and will continue to protest against this proposal vigorously. But it is the (apparent) blatant disregard for the wishes and needs of the people of Stamford that is equally frustrating.

If the town council is willing to support this ridiculous idea, where and what is next? A multi-storey car park on the Meadows?

The town has been, for many years, crying out for additional sports and recreational facilities. So what better use could the former Blackstone's site which is now just a derelict, readily accessible piece of land, be put to?

Stamford Town Council, the landowners of the former Blackstone's site and the land identified for the proposed move – it's time for you to do what is right for Stamford.
