Letter: Alternative ways to enjoy holidays - 26/06/09

RE: The recent Mercury report about the summer playscheme in Stamford.

The summer playschemes have been running for a number of years. In the current economic climate, we, like many other organisations, have reviewed our activities as part of our routine service planning processes, as it is important to ensure that scarce public sector resources are targeted towards the achievement of local priorities.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide any money for these schemes this year. We are, however, still involved in a variety of youth engagement projects located around the main population centres of the district.

We have been working with many partners, such as local policing teams, the youth service and Queen Eleanor Technology College to continue to provide a number of free activities during the summer. These include Wii sports days, Brazilian soccer school and hip-hop dance, and complement the wide range of activities provided by Stamford and Guildhall Arts Centers. For more details e-mail d.kitchen@southkesteven.gov. uk or call 01476 40 60 80. Your local children's centre also provides free friendly fun activities throughout the holidays. For more information call 01780 764072.
