A feast of village treats
MUSIC, a street market and a hog roast were some of the treats at a village feast weekend.
Market Overton once again hosted its annual Feast Weekend which is a tradition that dates back to the medieval times.
Little Angels and the Main Street Dancing Queens were among the acts who kicked off the weekend with a musical concert in the church on Friday evening.
This was followed by a gig in the pub, The Black Bull, by band Badger’s Mate.
About 55 stalls pitched up in the village centre on Saturday for the annual street market and visitors were also able to enjoy a barbecue and cream teas.
Villagers were then invited to a hog roast at the cricket club during the evening.
A total of 80 scarecrows following a theme of scarecrows around the world formed part of the adventure trail held on Sunday, which also included a performance by the Welland Valley Stompers in the Black Bull.
The weekend was rounded off with hymn singing by the Free Church on the village green.
Chairman of the Feast weekend committee Andy Cleverdon, 45, of Main Street, was pleased with the support for the event.
He said: “It is a fantastic weekend, it all done by a small committee of people but lots do get involved. It is an active village and has a fabulous community.”
