Alan Wood murder: violence may have been used to get PIN

Police have released footage of the man who is believed to have used murder victim Alan Wood's bank cards.

The man leading the investigation, Det Supt Stuart Morrison, is asking readers to take a close look at the footage to see if they know the man who is seen using the cashpoint at NatWest in High Street, Stamford, on Saturday, October 25.

Gardener Mr Wood, 50, was found dead at his home in Manor Lodge, Main Road, Lound, after suffering a brutal sustained attack with a knife or bladed instrument.

Det Supt Morrison said that he could no exclude the possibility that the murderer used violence against Mr Wood to get his PIN number but is still keeping an open mind as to the motive of the attack.

Seven attempts were made to use the cards between Thursday and Sunday, October 22 and 26, at cashpoints in Stamford and Bourne, with money being withdrawn on three of those occasions.

Speaking at press conference at Sleaford Golf Club on Wednesday (Nov4) Det Supt Morrison said: "The fact that we know Mr Wood suffered a sustained attack and the fact that sombody obtained the PIN number, I cannot exclude the posssibility that violence was used to get them from him."

Det Supt Morrison said that the investigation is progressing well and that his officers were working with South Kesteven District Council and shopkeepers in both towns to gather CCTV footage.

The footage, which does not show the man's face, shows the man is wearing blue clothing along with how he walks - which officers hope will lead to his identification.

Officers will also be approaching store and market traders in both towns to find out more information about the man using the cards. He is also appealing for photographs taken in the town centres on those dates.

Det Supt Morrison said: "This is somebody who is very important to the investigation as we believe this person is using Mr Wood's cards and the implication of that is obvious.

"If you know this person is please contact us. This person does not deserve loyalty from anybody. If you know or suspect who this is please contact us as soon as possible."
