A woman whose fiancé died of cancer has set herself a number of daring challenges this year to raise funds in his memory.

Amy Brocklehurst-Ball is gearing herself up for a skydive, three peaks challenge, 10k run and organising a charity ball in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Her partner Richard Brocklehurst, who was well-known for 13 years’ service to his family’s business Portess of Oakham, died in August after a five year battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma aged 29.

Amy, 28, hosted a James Bond themed dinner at Brooksby Hall near Melton in November which raised more than £4,600.

She is now determined to raise even more by conquering a number of physical feats with her sister Laura, 27.

Amy, who works at Fords of Oakham and lives in High Street, said: “It will be the first time I’ve ever done anything like a skydive before. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’ve done a mountain challenge before but that was when I was at school so I don’t know how I’ll manage the three peaks in 24 hours. I think it will be quite tough.

“My sister likes running so it was her choice to do the 10k in Kettering and the last ball went so well we thought we should organise another one.

“It’s going to be really busy for us but we’re hoping to raise at least £10,000 from all our challenges.

“It’s all for a worthwhile cause and something I want to do in Richard’s memory.”

The charity ball is being held at Brooksby Hall on March 15, to coincide with what would have been Richard’s 30th birthday, and will include a three-course meal and complementary drink on arrival.

Tickets for the ball, which are £40, will go on sale at the end of the month at Portess of Oakham and the shop’s branch in Melton.

Amy and Laura have named their charity events, the Broccolipops Challanges, as Richard’s was known to his friends as Broccolipop.

The skydive is taking place in April in Peterborough and the three peaks challenge, in which the pair will attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, a total of 9,800ft inside 24 hours, will take place in June. They are currently awaiting times and dates for the challenges.
