Author pens debut book aged just 10

WHEN 10-year-old Will Goddard sat down to do some English homework he never imagined his story would become a published novel.

ABut that is what happened to the Great Casterton Primary School pupil who has had his thrilling tale Water Source published in paperback.

The book is being sold online at lovewriting.co.uk, with the novel proving popular with his family, friends, teacher and fellow pupils.

Its popularity has also stretched to Yorkshire where one unknown reader has snapped-up a copy.

Will, of Trinity Road, Stamford, has been staggered with how his story's success has mushroomed.

"I was doing some practice papers for an English exam and that's how the story started. Then my mum found a website which published stories," he said.

Water Source tells the tale of the election of a new British leader who vows the clean-up the country.

But a young boy called James gets sucked into a chain of adventure after his journalist parents are thrown into jail for investigating suspicious incidents.

Publishing a novel is not Will's first significant achievement as he already holds a Guinness World Record.

He was born 17 weeks prematurely on Valentine's Day 1998 and Will's mum Liz Goddard was handed a certificate for her new born for being Britain's earliest surviving baby.

Having battled against the odds Will developed a passion for reading and his outlook has been inspired by travelling to a variety of countries.

He said: "I use my imagination when I write. The book covers two continents – Europe and Asia. I've done a lot of travelling and this helps me."

Mum Liz, who works at Casterton Business and Enterprise College, said: "I'm very proud of Will. He's constantly reading and I'm sure writing is something he will continue."
