Beware tax phone scam

A PHONE scam asking for people's bank details has been reported.

Residents have received calls from someone claiming to be from Rutland County Council or Leicestershire County Council telling them they either need to pay more council tax or that they are eligible for a tax rebate. The residents have then been asked for their bank details.

Rutland County Council is warning people that they would first receive a formal written warning if this was the case, and that legitimate staff would never ask for bank details over the phone.

Suspicious call should be reported to Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.

Sports days

are a success

THERE were smiles all round when Linchfield Primary School, in Deeping St James, held its sports days.

The two days involved nine different events and all the children took part in all the events, which were held over two days for key stages one and two.

The event proved popular with parents and other relatives, with hundreds turning up on each day.

Headteacher St John Burkett said: “We ploughed on through some rain for the key stage two day, but no one complained as we were all enjoying ourselves so much.

“On the other day, the sun came out, and on both days there was a lovely, friendly, but competitive, atmosphere.”
