Big screen returns
FAMILIES will not have to travel miles to enjoy a night at the flicks now a film club has started.
The Deepings Screen will show its first film, Hairspray, on Thursday at The Deepings School drama studio.
The Park Road school’s studio will be transformed into a regular cinema on the third Thursday of every month.
Deeping Screen is one of four community projects undertaken by the Deepings Management Partnership which invited a VIP audience including Mayor Pauline Redshaw to a special screening on October 2.
Partnership chairman John Lawrence said: “There is real support for the idea of bringing films back to the Deepings. I am confident the people of the Deepings will support this big screen, big sound, great price experience.”
Dave Dorward, who is promoting the films, said: “The cinema used to be where Deepings Motors was but I have no idea when it closed – certainly before I moved here in the 70s.”
A variety of films is planned and the next “blockbuster” will be announced after after each screening.
Martin Adkins, of Deeping Arts, said: “This is a great opportunity to bring the cinema back to the Deepings. If the idea of showing films is successful Deepings Arts will consider putting on films during the school holidays and also on weekend afternoons for senior citizens.”
Tickets for Hairspray (PG), starring John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken, cost 3 and are now on sale at Deeping Travel, Market Deeping. Doors open at 7pm and the film starts at 7.30pm.
