Bourne Poppy Appeal raises £16,000 in 2012

Organisers of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Bourne are celebrating a “tremendous response” to the 2012 appeal.

The Bourne branch exceeded expectations by raising more than £16,000 for a second successive year.

Poppy Appeal organiser Bill Griffin said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the tremendous response and the donations they gave to last year’s Poppy Appeal.

“I would like to very much thank everyone on my collecting team, young and old, for the time and effort they gave, standing out in all weathers, shaking their tins and spreading the word.”

Mr Griffin said he wished to thank all the businesses in Bourne who excepted collection tins for their premises and to Tesco, Sainsbury’s and The Burghley Centre for allowing volunteers to collect there.

During the autumn R J Scholes funeral home in Wherry’s Lane provided a limousine and driver to help deliver Poppy Appeal material to about 200 outlets in the town and Dyke.

Mr Griffin said: “The money collected is for such a good cause and the work that needs to be done can only be carried out with everyone’s help and generosity.”
