Bourne Preservation Society will hear talk on Sir Stamford Raffles

A talk about British enlightenment figure Sir Stamford Raffles will be taking place at Wake House on March 18.

The illustrated talk will be given by Jennifer Jennings at the meeting of Bourne Preservation Society.

Sir Stamford Raffles was a notable enlightenment figure founding Singapore and London Zoo.

He was a pioneer zoologist too, discovering, naming and collecting many mammals from Java. He was the first archaeologist of the Far East, digging up Borobudur.

He was the first antiquarian and the first anthropologist of the region. All this, as well as a writer, linguist, botanist and of course statesman.

The meeting is 7.30pm on at Wake House, in North Street, Bourne.

Members £1, non-members £2, plus refreshments afterwards.
