Bourne United Charities to repair riverbank in March

WORK will start on repairing a riverbank in March.

Bourne United Charities, which is responsible for the Wellhead, is hoping to make the most of a dry spell in St Peter’s Pool in the Wellhead Park by carrying out a £40,000 project to improve the riverbank.

Chairman of the charities Trevor Hollinshead said the work to repair the riverbank, which has been eroding over the years, would be carried out at the end of March.

The protective boarding, which is rotting away, will be replaced and there will also be some work to improve the gardens.

The work had been due to start at the end of this month but has been delayed because of studies by the Environment Agency.

The pool has been empty since September because the water is supplied by seven underground springs which feed into the pool from Derbyshire, where it has been exceptionally dry.

Mr Hollinshead said: “It is starting to get a bit concerning as we would love it to be full by the summer.”
