A brave woman is walking around with a slightly colder head than usual after shaving off her hair to raise funds in memory of her father.

Janet Hippey, 44, of Kesteven Road, Stamford, was watched by scores of shoppers at her workplace at Morrisons supermarket as she had all her hair shaved off.

Janet braved the new look to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, after her father David died from a brain tumour in 2011, aged 68.

Customers generously donated on the day via bucket collections and Janet was delighted to reach her fundraising target of £500.

Janet said: “It’s very cold but not too bad.

“I used to have spikey hair so I’ve had a few people walk past me and totally blank me because they don’t recognise me.”

Janet raises funds for the charity every year by doing the annual Race for Life run but her recent feat was her first solo fundraising challenge.

“I just came up with the idea because I wanted to raise money on my own,” she said. It feels a bit strange but it’s all for a very worthwhile cause. I really had no hesitation.

“There was a great atmosphere and lots of people donated so I’m very grateful to all the shoppers and staff.”
