Brothers riding to Romania in memory of Dad

TWO MOTORBIKING brothers are ready to blaze a trail to Romania and raise charity cash in memory of their Dad.

Richard and Ian Collins will tackle the 4,000 mile journey on 30-year-old Honda Superdream bikes which they are rebuilding.

The daring duo have opted for these bikes, which are no longer in production, as a tribute to their father Tony, who died two years ago of heart disease.

Richard, 35, who lives with partner Gill Thompson, 31, in Brackley Close, Bourne, said that a Superdream was one of his first bikes which his father helped him to buy.

The pair will leave Bourne on May 3 and travel through 12 countries to get to Constanta in Romania, and back again in two weeks to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

They are busy in the run-up to the ride in rebuilding these bikes, which were bought on e-Bay, and Ian, a 23-year-old shop assistant of Leofric Avenue, Bourne, also has to get his motorbike licence.

Richard, who has two children, Cavan, seven, and four-year-old Keir, hopes to raise as much money as possible.

He said: "It is not an everyday challenge. We don't want to go on the usual routes and thought we'd go to the edge of Europe and that is Romania.

"It is a proper challenge. We wanted to make it something different and interesting.

"We will be doing rolling repairs as we go. We are going to the back of beyond on these bikes."

The brothers are confident that the bikes will be ready after giving up weekends to work on them.

Now they are appealing for support from members of the public.

Richard, who is head of adult social care at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "It is hard at the minute and times are difficult but to get a little bit of money in the pot would be great. We want to raise a decent amount of money but we are not setting any targets."
