Cash blows in for wind farm protesters' fighting fund

A FUNDRAISING drive by wind farm protesters has got off to a great start with £1,000 being donated at a fun and fact day.

Members of Billingborough and Horbling Against Turbines, known as BHAT, and Action Group Against Sempringham Turbines, known as AGAST, organised the event on Saturday to help raise 5,000.

The groups say they will need to pay for expert help if electricity company EON submits a proposal to build 17 turbines on farmland east of Billingborough.

The firm says that it currently has no plans to submit an application.

Members of the protest groups were thrilled with the response to the fun and fact day in Billingborough Village Hall on Saturday.

Chairman of the Billingborough group, Sarah Ormrod, of High Street, Billingborough, said that donations accounted for half of the 1,000 raised on the day but stressed that more help is needed.

She said; "It is the future of the village and some people really do realise the impact that this is going to have.

"It is wonderful and it shows that the village is there to help and that the village is interested in helping. It was a fun way to do it.

"If these things went out to sea, you can stare at them and say 'how nice' and walk way from them.

"If this is more than a mile away from your house, you can't get away from them.

"We still need to raise quite a bit more as the cost of putting in a rebuttal is very expensive."

Visitors enjoyed looking around the variety of stalls, which sold books, CDs and DVDs.

There were also a number of games including guess where the willdife is and also the weight of the chain mail.

During the fun day, members also flew a blimp and plan to fly it again over the next month after getting a licence for the Aviation Authority.

Eon says that its staff are currently working on a planning application by compiling information but has no plans yet to submit the application.
