Charity shop issues appeal for donations after cold snap

Charity shop staff are appealing for people to have a clear out after the freezing conditions led to a drop in donations.
Staff at the British Heart Foundation shop in High Street, Stamford, said the cold weather had led to a drop in donations, which was up to 80 per cent in the worst hit areas.
Manager at the shop Claire Macartney said that it was understandable that people didn’t want to travel in the snow and ice but reminded people of the collection service the shop offers.
She said: “Because we are in the town centre we get lots of donations on the doorstep but when it is cold, people just don’t want to come out.
“But we will come to them. We really do rely on donations.”
Claire said that nationally the British Heart Foundation, which researches treatment into heart diseases, lost £1m last year after donations dropped in the bad weather.
She said the shops last year alone raised £26m.
The Stamford shop desperately needs good quality clothes, shoes, CDs, DVDs, books, toys and bric-a-brac. There is also a store in Grantham, which accepts large furniture and electrical items, which can be collected.
