Children enjoy church festival

A CHURCH festival for schoolchildren organised in memory of a minister has been hailed a success.

The Schools Together Festival took place at Stamford Corn Exchange in Broad Street, Stamford, on Wednesday last week. It involved 203 children from seven primary schools – St Gilbert’s, St George’s, St Augustine’s, Bluecoat, Malcolm Sargent, Uffington and the Bythams.

It was organised in memory of the Rev Clive Dixon, who died in January, 2008, and was the brainchild behind the popular event, which started in 2007.

Youngsters enjoyed stained glass window making, designing crosses from various materials, marbling, and workshops in drama and music, as well as a picnic. The theme was the Good Samaritan.

Organiser Len Marshall, of Oak Road, Stamford, said: “Many of the children may not have been in a church before, and we aim to show that churches are a place of light and entertainment.

“They all had a fun day ,and we always get very good positive feedback from schools and parents. At the end of the day, each child had something to take home.”

Mr Marshall said the event was carried on in memory of his close friend Rev Dixon.

“It was a fantastic vision that Clive had. He put in all the hard work and we just continue it very much in his memory. We all carry him in our hearts,” he said.
