Club needs space to store books
A Rotary club which collects books to send to youngsters affected by the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004 is appealing for space to store the books.
The Rotary Club of Stamford has run the popular appeal for the last few years for educational and fiction books, as well as small toys, to send to its Rotary colleagues in the country.
These donations are then passed onto schools and libraries, which are still suffering following the tsunami.
In the past, the club has used freely-loaned barns and garages donated by friends of the club but those helpful people now need the space for their own purposes.
The club is now hoping someone will come forward with a new offer of some space, ideally the equivalent of a double garage in or near Stamford with easy access.
Press officer Jim Guthrie said the appeal is usually run during the spring and the club is desperate for space before then.
He said: “Once this is secured we shall be able to send off a few more tons of books.
“I hope Mercury readers will be able to assist.”
