Clubs on lookout for new home

CLUBS which met at a hotel that is now closing temporarily have moved to pastures new.

The Lady Anne's Hotel in High Street St Martin's, Stamford, will close on Sunday, April 4, and so organisations which hold regular meetings there have had to find a new home. A few groups have decided to relocate to neighbouring hotel the Garden House.

These include The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, Business for Breakfast and The Inner Wheel Club of Stamford Burghley. Janet Malphus, regional director for the breakfast organisation, said: "We were very fortunate, as it is not that easy to find another venue which ticks all the boxes and takes you in."

The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley has used the hotel for more than 25 years.

Rotarian Jon Whowell said: "The service at the Lady Anne's has been excellent."

Inner Wheel Club member Kathy Walpole, of Church Street, Easton-on-the-Hill, said the group has been visiting the hotel during the group's whole lifetime spanning 21 years.

She thanked everyone at the hotel for their support on behalf of the club.

Another group considering a move to the Garden House is the Stamford branch of the Reliant Scimitar and Sabre Owners Club for car enthusiasts. The Stamford branch of the Royal British Legion has also found a new home at The Cummins Club, in Wharf Road.

The Lady Anne's owners, The Burghley House Preservation Trust, will re-apply for planning permission for a major refurbishment in the near future.

Hotelier Geoff Hastings, who has been in charge of the hotel with his wife Anne and son Warren, is retiring after 30 years.
