Community access point opens to the public

After years of planning and preparing the doors to the new community access point in Bourne opened to the public yesterday.
The £600,000 transformation of the Bourne Corn Exchange into a one-stop-shop for services in the town was revealed to dignitaries at an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday. The Exchange will house the town, district and county councils, as well as the library and register office,
The public were allowed in from 9am yesterday.
Leader of Lincolnshire County Council, Martin Hill (Con) said: “The new centre will be right at the heart of the community, offering a wide range of council services under one roof.
“And by sharing space with the district and town councils we’ll be saving taxpayers’ money too.
“But we’re not just maintaining services – we’re improving them as well.
“This newly-refurbished home will give the library a new lease of life, with longer opening hours and better parking making it easier for residents to visit.”
South Kesteven District Council leader Linda Neal (Con) said: “The project has been many years in the making and just over a year in construction, but we have got there in the end and I think that you will agree that the building looks fantastic, and I am personally really pleased with the end result.
“There has been a lot of hard work to get us to this point. I am sure the town’s residents will feel this is a project that has been worth doing.”
