Conservatives win by-election in Uppingham

UPPINGHAM has a new county councillor.

Carolyn Cartwright (Con) of Main Street, Bisbrooke, won the Rutland County Council seat in a by-election held in the town yesterday.

She beat Liberal Democrat candidate Peter Golden of Peters Way, Bisbrooke, and Labour candidate Julie Park of Main Street, Barrowden, with 424 votes to their 200 and 211 votes.

The seat was previously held by the late Colin Forsyth (Ind) who died from a heart attack in October.
