A public swimming pool could reopen in January if a council approves plans to carry out essential repair work.
The pool at Catmose Sports Centre in Oakham has been closed for six weeks after leaks were discovered in the roof.
Rutland County Council has been forced to review its future after further investigations revealed warped roof beams, damage to the framework and weak joints with a “high risk of local sudden collapse”.
Members of the cabinet discussed their options this morning (Tuesday) and voted in favour of the council spending £130,000 on repairing the pool structure.
It would take until at least January to complete the work.
The other options were to close the pool permanently, replace its structure at a cost of £500,000 or build a brand new pool at a cost of £3.7m.
The repair work will now be discussed by members of the full council before a final decision is made.
