County council delays discussion on who will run new school in Bourne
County council plans to discuss who should run the new primary school planned for Bourne have been put back so late information can be considered.
Lincolnshire County Council’s children and young people’s scrutiny committee was due to meet on Friday to discuss a recommendation that Bourne Westfield Primary Academy, in partnership with the CfBT Schools Trust, should run the new academy school planned on the Elsea Park Estate.
The discussion has now been put back to the next committee meeting to give councillors time to consider extra information that was submitted this week.
The recommendation that Westfield should run the new school was made by a panel made up of the council’s assistant director for children’s services, a representative from the scrutiny committee and two headteachers of Lincolnshire maintained primary schools.
Assistant director of children’s services at Lincolnshire County Council Meredith Teasdale, said: “The proposal that relates to a new primary academy in Bourne will be considered at a future committee meeting.
“This does not affect the planned opening of the school for September 2014.”
The Elsea Park school will provide 210 places, 30 in each year group, which the council says will be needed in the town by 2015 based on growth projections.
The £2.5 million construction costs would be paid by the county council and Elsea Park developers Kier Homes as part of an agreement made when the 2,000-home estate was granted planning permission.
A date for the next scrutiny committee meeting has not yet been set but the next meeting is taking place on June 14.
