A crime-fighting charity has launched a social media campaign to help rural communities.

Crimestoppers has teamed up with volunteers, police and rural organisations across the area for the “Scene it. Herd it. Speak up about it. Anonymously” campaign.

The charity wants to encourage people to report any suspicious activity they may see around farms and rural communities.

According to the charity rural theft cost the UK an estimated £42.3m in 2012 and can cause a number of problems for the food
chain, deliveries and supermarket prices.

East Midlands regional manager Kiran Dhanda said: “Rural crime can have devastating consequences for the victims but it affects every one of us by driving up food prices.

“We are appealing to the public to help catch these criminals by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org and telling us what you know.”

Director of operations Roger Critchell added: “In the 26 years that Crimestoppers has been running we have never broken our promise of anonymity.”
