Crowds turned out to show their appreciation for the new mayor at a special parade and service in Stamford yesterday (Sunday).

Town councillors and dignitaries from across the county gathered for Stamford Town Council’s annual civic parade and service to welcome new mayor Brian Sumner.

The parade was led along St Mary’s Hill, St Mary’s Street, St John’s Street, Red Lion Square, All Saints Place and Barn Hill before the civic service was held at Trinity Methodist Church.

Civic officer Mark Murtagh, who organised the event, said: “We had a good turnout with lots of people clapping and showing their support.

“It’s a great tradition in this town and the mayor was very happy.”

Coun Brian Sumner is taking over from former mayor Coun Bob Sandall.
