Day centres in Rutland could close as council explores its options

Five day centres in Rutland are under the threat of closure.

The centres, which are run by charity Age UK, are funded by Rutland County Council at a cost of £82,000 per year.

However, only 18 people use the service and the council and the charity are in discussions over how it should be run.

One option is close the centres in Oakham, of which there are two, Uppingham, Cottesmore and Empingham, and run care services at The Brambles, at Rutland Care Village in Oakham. This would be operated by Prime Life.

What do you make of the plans? Do you use the service or have a relative who does? We would like to hear your views. E-mail the newsdesk at smeditor@stamfordmercury.co.uk or call 01780 758951.
