Dog owners warned to clear up or face £75 fine

DOG owners who fail to clear up after their pets will be fined if council plans for new regulations go ahead.

South Kesteven District Council is consulting on introducing dog control orders.

If the plans are approved, authorised officers will be able to issue spot fines of 75 if owners fail to clean up, do not put their dog on a lead when asked or allow the dog onto land they are banned from.

The new orders would replace existing regulations regarding dog fouling and enable action to be taken if a dog is being a persistent nuisance by requesting the owner put the dog on a lead. They also enable controls to be placed on enclosed areas like children's playareas where dogs can cause problems.

The list of proposed sites was drawn up after consultation with parish and town councils.

Consultation starts today and runs until October 1. Visit www.southkesteven.gov.uk/dogcontrolorders.
