A loving sister is taking on the London Marathon this year in memory of her sister who lost her battle with cancer eight years ago.

Danielle Tempest, 33, of Main Road, Dowsby is taking on the challenge to honour her sister and the young family she left behind and raise awareness of the illness she died from.

Michelle Surtees, whose maiden name was Wand, was just 31 when she died from cervical cancer at 1.15am on September 12, 2005.

She was originally diagnosed with the illness in October 2004, just five months after having her daughter Amelie with her husband Paul Surtees.

Despite it being eight years since she lost her sister, Dani is not slowing down with her fundraising.

She will be running the marathon for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, know as Jo’s Trust, which is the only UK charity dedicated to women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.

It aims to offer information and support to women of all ages, to help them to understand the importance of cervical screening, and to provide support if diagnosed.

Dani said: “By running the London Marathon for Jo’s Trust I am helping to raise awareness and money for this valuable trust.

“I have seen how cervical cancer can really take over someone’s life and women are just not getting screened for it.

Dani, an advertising production controller, is currently looking for businesses to support her efforts to raise £2,500.

“I am going to be doing some events in Bourne in the coming months to raise my sponsorship.

“I am also looking for local businesses to sponsor a minimum of £200 to support me and I will print their company logo on my T-shirt for the day.”
