Villages and communities in Rutland are being called to put themselves forward for an annual award.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Community Council is running its Village and Community Achievement Awards and wants to hear about the best of what places in the area have to offer.

There are two categories in which people can enter their village; community, which focuses on the clean environment; and community halls.

There is a £250 cash prize for the winner of each category. The competition is open to communities with populations of under 15,000.

A spokesman said: “Every village has an equal chance of winning. It doesn’t matter if this is your first time, or if you have entered in previous years.

“Just tell us what you are proud of, what you do for your community and how you look after everyone.”

Full competition details and entry forms can be downloaded from www.ruralcc.org.uk or write to Community House, 133 Loughborough Road, Leicester, LE4 5LQ.
