Faulty wiring blamed for fire

FAULTY wiring leading to a small table lamp is believed to have been the cause of a house fire in North Luffenham.

Crews from Oakham attended the blaze in Lyndon Road, last Thursday night, shortly before 7pm.

Two firefighters tackled the fire which was at the back of the living room. Although there was smoke damage throughout the house, the fire at the detached property was confined to the living room.

The occupants of the house were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector alarm and no one was injured.

Mark Draper, of Oakham fire station, said: "If this life saving piece of equipment was not there or not working the consequences of this fire could well have been more serious.

"Leicestershire Fire and Rescue urge everybody to make sure they have a working smoke alarm in their home, these simple devices can literally be the difference between life and death."
