The former High Sheriff of Rutland is launching a fundraising drive to help groups across the county, including a vital cancer support service.

Trish Ruddle has set up initiative For Rutland In Rutland along with fellow campaigner Elizabeth Mills to raise funds for a wide range of the charities and services throughout Rutland and the surrounding villages.

The pair have chosen their first beneficiary as Rutland Wellbeing Partnership, which is based at the Rutland Citizens Advice Bureau in High Street, Oakham.

The partnership, which offers specialist advice for cancer and dementia sufferers and their families and carers on a range of problems, faced an uncertain future after its funding was cut. However, it will now continue to run its vital service thanks to a funding commitment from the new initiative and the Karen Ball Fund, which donated £10,000 to the cause.

For Rutland In Rutland will be officially launching at the tombola stand at the Rutland County Show on Sunday.

Trish, who lives in Langham and was last year’s High Sheriff, said: “The partnership offers such a great service and we’re delighted to be able to keep it running through our new initiative.

In the future we hope to be able to help many others and we’re looking forward to seeing the money come in.”

For Rutland In Rutland has been backed by the Karen Ball Fund, the Rutland and Melton Cancer Support Group, Margaret Demaine, volunteer for Dementia Friends and members of the Citizens Advice Bureau.

It is also Oakham mayor Coun Jayne Woodcock’s charity of the year and has been adopted by county show president Trevor Ellis, with Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Laurence Howard as patron.
