Four men have appeared in court charged with attempted robbery after trying to steal from an antiques centre while armed with axes.
The men are alleged to have carried out a raid at Rutland Antiques Centre in Crown Passage, Uppingham, at about midday on Saturday. They threatened the store owners but got away with nothing and were arrested later that day.
The men, aged 19, 24, 26 and 26, appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court yesterday (Tuesday) charged with attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
The 24-year-old was also charged with two counts of handling stolen goods.
All four men have been sent to trial and will appear at Leicester Crown Court on May 6. They have been remanded in custody.
