A community group has been recognised for its efforts with the presentation of a certificate.

Bourne mayor David Higgs visited the community orchard, off Beech Avenue, to meet The Friends of Bourne Wood, which runs the orchard. He presented them with a judges award from the annual Bourne in Bloom competition recognising their efforts in setting up the orchard and even lent a hand planting a tree himself.

Secretary of the Friends Sarah Roberts said: “We were really pleased to get the award as it shows our efforts are being recognised.”

It was a busy weekend for the Friends, who also held a Santa at Bourne Wood event on Sunday.

More than 250 children attended to search for him in the woodland and visited stalls.

Sarah added: “It was lovely to see Santa in the wood, it really is a magical event.”
