Future looks bright for taxi firm
TAXI drivers who rescued their company are now expanding.
Berridge Taxis went into administration in February but a team of drivers bought the company name and had services back up and running within days.
Four months on, they have just added an eight-seater minibus to their fleet which they hope will attract group bookings.
Company partner Terry Ashelford, 61, of Main Street, Whissendine, said: “Trade is strong thanks to our loyal and valued customers. We have increased our fleet and hope the minibus will give us greater flexibility for airport runs and group bookings.”
The Berridge Taxis team, which includes Trevor Kyte and Paul Dalloe, is maintaining the 7am until late service the company was renowned for under the ownership of former boss Craig Berridge, of South Witham, but hope to expand their numbers.
Paul, 53, of Nene Crescent in Oakham, said: “Maintaining the high level of service and telephone cover is a logistical headache so we’re looking for anyone interested in escort or driver work.
“All the drivers are doing a fantastic job. We have a wealth of taxi experience and we’re all loving it.”
Berridge Taxis, of Long Row in Oakham, had been running in the town for more than 30 years. When it closed, former owner Mr Berridge said: “It was a hard decision to make in respect of the length of time we have been running and the amount of loyal customers and staff.
“When you put your business head on you realise that things are tough and if you don't react to the climate we are faced with then the decision will be made for you.”
