Hard work recognised
YOUNG apprentices who impressed their mentors in the world of work were rewarded at a ceremony.
The Young Apprenticeship programme allowed the youngsters to gain work experience with local companies alongside studying for their GCSEs.
At the ceremony held by Rutland County Council at Oakham Castle the young people were joined by more than 170 representatives from businesses and organisations to celebrate their success.
Among them was Uppingham Community College pupil Katherine Wells, 14, who worked at the county council.
She said: “ The scheme is a great opportunity to gain experience in a real working environment and Ithink it will really help me in the future.”
More than 40 pupils took part from Casterton Business and Enterprise College, Vale of Catmose College in Oakham, Uppingham Community College and schools in Stamford and Market Deeping.
Over the two-year course the pupils attended a one day a week work experience session and spent one day a week at either Brooksby Melton College, Tresham Institute or New College Stamford. They worked in industries including automotive, hospitality, catering and design.
The catering for the event had been arranged by the pupils on the catering training programme at Tresham Institute.
Special awards handed out included student of the year, Work Placement Star and Employer of the Year.
