Rutland’s police and crime commissioner wants views on a new process in which low level crime such as minor criminal damage is settled out-of-court.
Sir Clive Loader has launched a survey to seek opinions on the new Community Remedy-style process, where crime is settled outside the Criminal Justice System, with the full agreement of the person affected, the perpetrator and the police.
The approach is proven to increase satisfaction among those who opt for them when compared those who choose the criminal justice system-centred approaches, such as taking low level offences to court.
Sir Clive said: “The survey presents an opportunity for people in our communities to have their say on how local issues are settled outside the Criminal Justice System with the full agreement of the person affected, the perpetrator and the police.”
