Headteacher pays tribute to Laurence Mills

A HEADTEACHER has paid tribute to a “special little boy” who drowned in a lake with his grandmother.
Six-year-old Laurence Mills, from Ketton, and his grandmother Dawn Mullany, 71, from Castle Bytham, are believed to have been feeding the ducks at the lake in Holywell, near Castle Bytham, when the tragedy occurred on Thursday.
Laurence, who was known as Laurie, was a pupil at Ketton Primary School.
Headteacher Amanda Rogers said the school community was devastated by the news.
She described Laurie as a “special little boy”, who “loved life”.
Mrs Rogers said: “Laurie tackled everything with enthusiasm; he relished challenge, had a wonderful sense of humour, was chatty, sociable and had impeccable manners too.
“He just loved everything about school, and would run to get here every morning.
“Laurie was always very cheerful. So many things made him happy and Laurie’s happiness was infectious.”
The pupils complete journals about their weekends and Mrs Rogers said Laurie’s entries in his journal were “testament to his close knit, loving, caring family; full of news about the exciting things he had done with his mummy, daddy, sister and grandma”.
Floral tributes have been left in the playground of the school and yesterday (Monday), a candlelit vigil was held at St Mary the Virgin Church in Ketton.
